How to Add Children to a Specific Spouse (Blended Families & Divorcees)

When building your family tree in leafplanner, you may need to add children from previous marriages or specific spouses to accurately represent blended families or divorcees.

Here is a quick step-by-step guide on how to add a child to a specific spouse without linking them to both partners:

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Add the Spouse

  • Navigate to your family tree and click on the primary person (e.g., John Doe).

  • Click on Add Relative.

  • Select Add Spouse from the options. If applicable, ensure the Add Spouse tree has a separate child relationship tree.

  • Enter the First and Last Name of the spouse (e.g., Jane Doe).

  • Click Save.

2. Add the Child to the Specific Spouse

  • Now, click on the newly added spouse (Jane Doe).

  • Click the Add Relative icon (the person_add symbol).

  • Select the option to add a child of [Spouse 2] but not [Spouse 1] (e.g., Add a child of Jane Doe but not John Doe).

  • Enter the child's Name.

  • Click Save.

3. View Respective Children

  • To view the different family dynamics, simply click and swap between the parent profiles on the tree. Selecting one spouse will highlight their specific children, allowing you to easily visualize blended families.
