How to Choose the Right Image for Your leafplanner Resources
This article outlines best practices for choosing and uploading resource images, including recommendations on image size, orientation, and what’s coming soon.
How to Choose the Right Image for Your leafplanner Resources
Adding images to your Resources—whether family members, properties, collectibles, or other important assets—brings clarity and context to your leafplan. A thoughtfully selected photo can make your leafplanner more visual, relational, and meaningful.
What Are Resource Images?
Resource images are photos or visuals associated with Resources in each of your leafplan's sections. These could include:
-
Family members
-
Properties (homes, vacation houses, rental properties)
-
Personal assets (artwork, jewelry, collectibles)
-
Entities (LLCs, trusts, foundations)
-
Vehicles, boats, or aircraft
-
And more...
While optional, resource images help you and your collaborators recognize and connect with each resource more intuitively—especially as your plan becomes more complex.
Recommended Image Size and Orientation
The recommended size for resource images is 600 x 300 pixels, which corresponds to a 2:1 aspect ratio (landscape orientation).
Landscape Images (Best Fit)
-
Display cleanly and consistently across devices
-
Are less likely to be cropped or distorted
-
Ideal for photos of real estate, vehicles, and wide-angle shots of family events or gatherings
Portrait Images (Still Supported, But May Be Cropped)
-
Common for family members (e.g., headshots or portraits)
-
Currently centered within the landscape frame, which may lead to vertical cropping or extra space on the sides
-
Can still be used effectively, but may require editing or repositioning for best results
Tips for Choosing the Right Image
-
Use landscape-oriented images when possible for optimal display
-
If uploading a portrait, center the subject and include some background space to avoid cropping
-
Prioritize clear, high-resolution photos
-
For assets, real-life photos are often more meaningful than logos or stock images
-
For people, select images that reflect personality, legacy, or memory—not just a formal headshot
