How to Use Search and Navigate in the Document Viewer

The document viewer in leafplanner includes powerful search and navigation tools to help you quickly locate the information you need—whether reviewing complex estate documents, legal agreements, or family governance frameworks.

Why It Matters

Long documents can be difficult to work through manually. With built-in search and navigation tools, you can instantly pinpoint key terms, phrases, or sections—saving time and enabling more focused, efficient review.

Using the Search Tool

  1. Open Your Document
    Navigate to your desired document in leafplanner and open it in the viewer.

  2. Activate Search
    Click the search icon (represented by a magnifying glass) in the toolbar.

  3. Enter a Keyword or Phrase
    Type any word or phrase into the search bar. Results will appear in a sidebar or overlay, showing every instance of your term in the document.

  4. Navigate Results
    Click any result to jump directly to that location within the document. The term will be highlighted for easy visibility.

Advanced Search Tips

  • Use exact phrases in quotes to narrow results (e.g., "distribution provisions").

  • Try searching family names, legal terms, or dates for quick verification.

  • Combine with annotation tools to highlight search results for future reference.

Navigating Through Documents

In addition to keyword search, the viewer offers tools for easy document navigation:

  • Thumbnails Panel
    Open the thumbnail view to quickly scroll through pages visually—helpful for jumping to diagrams, signatures, or structured sections.

  • Bookmarks / Outline
    If a document contains bookmarks or a table of contents, use the outline panel to jump directly to major sections like “Trust Provisions,” “Schedule A,” or “Appendices.”

  • Page Number Navigation
    Use the page number field at the bottom or top of the viewer to go directly to a known page.
