Resource Sharing Across Accounts

Learn about resource sharing across accounts in leafplanner

In certain family structures—particularly within family offices, multi-generational families, or large family enterprises—there is often a need to share select information across multiple accounts. This may include descendant trust documentation, vacation property details, educational trust information, or overarching family enterprise charts and governance documents.

To meet this need, Leafplanner offers an optional Resource Sharing capability, enabling secure, selective information exchange between related accounts.

Enabling Resource Sharing

Resource Sharing is an account-level feature. When enabled, it allows clients to make specific resources available across different accounts within their family network.

  • If the feature is active for your account, a "Share" option will appear in the left-hand navigation.

  • If you do not see this option, Resource Sharing has not been enabled for your account. Please contact your advisor or Leafplanner Support to discuss activation.

Accessing the Sharing Table

When you navigate to the Share section, you will see a Sharing Table. This serves as your control center for managing shared resources. Here, you can:

  • Create and manage sharing tags — A tag is a label you apply to resources you wish to share.

  • Assign tags to specific resources — Any resource with that tag will be shared with the designated accounts.

How Tags Work

Tags allow you to group related resources under a common label. For example:

  • "G2" for materials relevant to the second generation.

  • "Family Trusts" for all trust-related documents and details.

Once a tag is created, you can attach it to any relevant resources within your account. Any account linked to that tag will automatically gain access to the tagged resources, ensuring the right information reaches the right stakeholders.

Important: Only the parent account (the original owner of the resources) can edit or update shared information. If you are viewing the resource from an account it has been shared to, you will have view-only access.

Best Practices for Resource Sharing

  • Use descriptive, intuitive tag names so recipients immediately understand the purpose of the shared resources.

  • Review shared resources periodically to ensure they remain relevant and up to date.

  • Apply the principle of least privilege — share only what is necessary to maintain security and confidentiality.

Example Use Cases

  • A family office shares an updated Family Enterprise Organizational Chart with branch-specific accounts.

  • A trustee provides educational trust details to accounts associated with each beneficiary’s household.

  • A vacation property schedule and usage guidelines are shared with all accounts that have access rights.

By enabling Resource Sharing, Leafplanner clients can foster greater transparency, efficiency, and alignment within complex family structures—ensuring that the right individuals have access to the right information, at the right time.
